The term Free Software is quite ambiguous for any reader. The most important thing to be understood is that Free Software implies software that is free as in freedom, free as in free speech, not free as in free coffee, or for that matter as in free shampoos, or anything.
Free Software is the software which grants user the power to use the software as per his/her wish. Essentially, any software is Free Software if it guarantees the user the Four Essential Freedoms:
- Freedom 0: Freedom to run the program as per the user's wish
- Freedom 1: Freedom to study and change the source code
- Freedom 2: Freedom to make copies of the program and distribute it
- Freedom 3: Freedom to distribute modified copies of the program
